The social trend of these days: Gretchen Roehrs draws clothes with fresh food and it is immediately a viral trend. Shots create share chains and record numbers in terms of like and followers. It’s a subtle look and visual satisfaction for your eyes.
The connection is obvious. Fashion and food are two sensory exploration tools, the reins of an impelling need to meet. The desire of a beautiful, the luscious visual sense to explore and the aspiration to the shapes of your own desires, in clothes field as in the taste one. And it is an entire explosion that begins from simple sketches and involves a complete set of emotions and sensory touches.
Because it goes from the view sense to the aroma and taste of the photographed, drawn and posted food. And so pics smells, smells, tastings. Admiration, lines and forms of habits that come to life in pencil models.
Fashion Food and the illustration concept
Furthermore fashion combines creativity, the imagination of an outstanding artist who bases his work on the concept of healthy food. A new way of conceiving the fashion system. American illustrator Gretchen Roehrs is the new Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook viral phenomenon.
And the numbers speak for themselves. Because @groehrs account has 80,000 followers. Delicate sketches, linear sketches of anonymous female figures who resume their name by their wonderful clothes they wear.
Clothes and accessories are edible foods. Therefore unique look for a banana peel transforming into a trendy jumpsuite, a mandarin becomes an eclectic charleston dress and an artichoke leaf rise as an elegant dress for a soire.
Art imitates life. Roehrs has given birth to his Dress Sketches Food project for an interesting, linear and extremely evocative social phenomenon. Dresses and accessories are food and exceptional illustrative manipulations of true art. Magical haute couture outfit dressing feminine fairy tales. With toast bread, colorful fruit, fresh vegetables or oysters borrowed from a three-star menu.
Experimentation and play. If a strawberry turns into a delicious short skirt and a slice of melon is the skirt for a warm summer evening then maybe it’s true that fantasy is never ending.
A viral phenomenon of limbs that come together
Gretchen Roehrs is not a fashion designer, but has always been fascinated by the fashion world while remaining anchored in the seduction of Food. The result? His blog and the unique line of his creations.
“It all started like a kind of provocation against a my dear friend who lives on the mythical East Coast. There are often many kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables there in the cooler months of the year. This thing has always made me think. I was terribly sorry for these people who could not enjoy fresh apples or uncooked cauliflowers. But at the same time I’ve always been around my friend. I also thought of all the women who could not eat a fresh fruit. And then the idea. I thought they could not put fresh foods in their diets. Yet they would have liked the sight of sketches that they proposed as clothes.” These are the words that an illustrator of San Francisco had in mind was the moment in which she had the idea for his drawings. Seems like it is a trend we won’t forget soon.
It all went beyond the nice initial provocation.
For Roehrs there is a direct connection between healthy eating and fashion: “There are immense parallels and concepts of true sharing and affinity between food and fashion. They are two faces of the need of the visual sense satisfaction. And then it’s interesting to note that both enjoy a nice texture. After all, fashion is not so different from the kitchen. Two similar entities that offer you the great chance of hiding, changing, camouflaging. There is a real evolution of elements and ingredients. And then it is the fantastic part of the creative process: it starts from simple products that become something unique and exquisite. All thanks to the careful preparation of the chef or the designer. ”
